Discover the Panama Canal and Five Must-See Places in the City
Much more than a visit to the locks. In approximately 5 to 6 hours, discover some of the places that best tell the story of Panama’s history, transformation, and character: the Canal, the former Canal Zone, the waterway’s administrative center, the Pacific entrance, and historic Casco Antiguo.
INQUIRE ON WHATSAPPWhere You Truly Discover How the Canal Works
We begin at the Miraflores Locks, one of the best places to appreciate the scale of the engineering achievement that forever changed global trade.
Here you can see how the locks operate up close and, depending on vessel traffic, watch enormous ships pass through the Canal as they are raised or lowered on their journey between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
This stop brings together engineering, history, and an extraordinary perspective on why Panama holds such a unique place on the world map.
From a Former Military Base to an International Hub of Knowledge
Just minutes from Miraflores, we visit the City of Knowledge (Ciudad del Saber), a fascinating place that reveals another chapter in the history of the former Canal Zone.
Buildings and green spaces that were once part of a U.S. military base have taken on a completely new purpose. Today, the campus brings together international organizations, educational institutions, businesses, and innovation initiatives.
It is a place where Panama’s past and present literally meet in the same space.
One of the Most Iconic Buildings in Canal History
Next, we head to the historic Panama Canal Administration Building, perched on a hill overlooking some of the most recognizable landmarks of the former Canal Zone.
Its monumental architecture and prominent location reflect the administrative and strategic importance of this area throughout the development and operation of the interoceanic waterway.
It is also an excellent photo stop and an opportunity to discover another perspective on the Canal’s history.
Experience Several Chapters of Panama’s History in Just a Few Hours
From the working locks, we travel through the former Canal Zone, continue toward the Pacific entrance, and finish with a walk through the historic district.
Where the City Meets the Pacific Ocean
After exploring the Canal’s history, we arrive at the Amador Causeway. Built using material excavated during the Canal’s construction, it is now one of Panama City’s most enjoyable waterfront promenades.
From here, enjoy views of the Canal’s Pacific entrance, the ocean, and Panama City’s modern skyline.
It is the perfect place to relax for a few minutes, take photographs, and see how the Canal and the city share the same remarkable landscape.
A Walk Through Historic Squares, Churches, Balconies, and Centuries of History
Our final stop is Casco Antiguo, one of Panama City’s most captivating and photogenic neighborhoods.
We will stroll past historic squares, churches, colonial buildings, restored balconies, and streets that tell a very different chapter of Panama’s story.
By day, the neighborhood is ideal for exploring its architecture and heritage. After sunset, Casco Antiguo reveals an entirely different personality.
After sunset, the neighborhood comes alive with restaurants, rooftop terraces, music, bars, and vibrant nightlife. If you would like to explore this side of Casco Antiguo at a relaxed pace, we can arrange a separate evening tour.
